The main players

The Company’s founders; Paul Eyre CEO and Debbie Grayson, Commercial Director, commenced trading in 1997 as a traditional carpet retailer. Paul has over 30 years experience in the carpet industry and came into it through family interests. He is also extensively experienced with suppliers, competitors and store locations throughout the UK. Debbie also came into the industry via family interests and has been involved in the carpet and bed sector for over 27 years. Her primary responsibility is for buying and she has excellent links to our supplier network. She supports Paul in managing the business with a specific role in setting up, developing and managing the beds division since it’s inception in 1999. Ian Bowness, Finance Director, is a qualified Chartered Accountant. He worked at Sears plc for 10 years of which the latter 8 years was spent as Group Financial Controller. Ian was Group  Finance Director of DFS Furniture Company plc for 8 years prior to joining United Carpets plc.

About the company

We are full BFA members and became A.I.M. Stock Market listed in February 2005. In 1998 the first franchised store was created. The Group currently has a total of 80+ stores of which 65 are operated by franchisees. The Group carries out significant advertising, particularly via Regional TV, and specifically within its main area of trading, namely Northern and Central England. United Carpets have been undertaking TV advertising since 2000 with excellent results bringing about a significant period of growth both in store numbers and like for like sales.
